These cakes are perfect for a little sweet craving.
OR
an adorable smash cake for your little one's birthday.
Either way...
these cakes are a must try!
Step 1. Remove paper if necessary from the empty can and clean it. Grease and flour the inside of the can. Fill the can a little over half full with batter. I baked these at 350 degrees for about 25-30 minutes. (Make sure to do a toothpick check to ensure the cake is cooked through.)
Cake is usually not my favorite...but i love yellow cake mix made with applesauce! Its a little more dense than a normal cake and tastes a little sweeter. Plus, it's lower in fat! Who doesn't love that?! For this recipe I used:
1 1/2 c. yellow cake mix
1 medium egg
3/4 c. applesauce
Step 2. After you remove the cakes use a bread (serrated) knife and cut off the rounded top and eat it :) You want to make sure it tastes okay right? ;) Cut the cakes into little layers. For my cake i made 4 layers, but you can do less or more...depending on how much frosting you like. Make sure to cut the slices flat and even so they will stack nicely.
Step 3. To frost, pipe a thick line of frosting around the very edge of the cake. This will give it a smooth exposed edge & make the next layer sit flat. With a butter knife, smooth the frosting over the full slice. Gently place the next layer on top and repeat until you are finished! Frost the top of the cake and decorate in any way you like! Here are a few ways i thought were simple and adorable:
